I liked this mystery. It was much more complex than in book 2. So I can see that the books are getting better and better. The main character, Lucille, is an older blind woman, who has the occasional gift of second sight. I mean she sees her environment from her inner minds eye. And she can see into things, like what is inside of a closed closet. Pretty cool. I have had mixed thoughts about Lucille. Sometimes I do not like her because she can be very judgmental. For example, subtly bringing up use of a bicycle to her overweight neighbor. Being a big woman myself, I don't like that. But Lucille is never intentionally cruel, she just speaks up for what she believes in. But I decided that what Lucille is, is real. Most of us are judgmental. Most of us are flawed in some way. And in this book Lucille is more like a real person, albeit smarter and more driven than most people. She is also kind and giving to those she loves. And she fiercely goes after injustice, particularly if it is to someone she cared about. I already read book 4 which was also very good. Again, the author continues to write an enjoyable crime story with likable and devious characters, great channels of communication, and expressive settings, which will keep you guessing to the very end. Feisty Lucille Pfiffer is back along with Nilla, her Shih Tzu dog, and prying Marlene, her best friend for over 10 years. This time, the three plan to find out who murdered the wealthy Sir Clement Tucker, putting them in a perilous position. The bickering between Lucille and Marlene can be quite sarcastic and at the same time amusing since Marlene feels the undertaking of this crime-solving scheme could backfire. A trail of entrenched resentment, greed, police cover-ups, betrayal, courtroom drama, and scandal lead to an unexpected revelation, building up to an ending that will leave you gasping, reminding us that the love of money is the root of all evil. I like how Lucille and Marlene are uncompromising women who take no guff from anybody. I am looking forward to seeing more of these two characters.
